ceej's music corner

ceej: Well, if it's music you want then I'll do my best ** picks up guitar from corner of room ** The only instrument I know how to play is the guitar. Did you know I went to school to study classical guitar? I thought I wanted to teach and perform professionally. Turns out I didn't want that at all. Dropped out of a phD and went elsewhere. Still love to play though. It's so freeing to do something you love and not have it connected to your livelihood.

This piece I'll play is called "Ballet" by Manuel Ponce, a 20th century Mexican composer. A fun fact about Ponce is that he was a pianist. While he didn't play guitar personally, he had a knack for writing such beautiful pieces for the instrument. It also helped that he collaborated frequently with great guitarists of his day.

What strikes me about this piece is the interplay between the bass and melody along with its slow yet forward rhythm (being a dance and all). I'll just play the first half so you get a sense of what I'm talking about.

Phew, felt like I might have made a mistake hear or there but I hope you enjoyed that.
